FOOD  PANTRY How did it start?  When did it start?  Who started it?

In 1991 a man from Arkansas came to serve our church as pastor (Rev. Stanley Bomgarden).  He brought to us news of a youth program that happens at Purdue University every 3 years and encouraged us to participate.  That program was the Presbyterian Youth Triennium!

Steve Edwards.  Leaders were Muriel Grimes & Nancy Edwards.

The theme that year was “Through the Waters”.  This event was a life changing event for all of us.  At the close of the week, our group met at Ben & Jerry’s to share our collective thoughts about the week.  One Scripture that meant so much to us was from 1 John 3:18: “Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.”

Out of that Triennium experience came a desire to reach out to those in need in our community.  The youth were so appreciative of the support of this congregation and of the many blessings they had received that they wanted to give back.  So, we came home and looked for a way to serve.  This is how our local Food Pantry was begun.  The youth group ran this for several years.  Then the DPW ran it awhile and for some time now it has been one of the outreaches of the mission committee of this church.

Praise be to God!

We take a look back giving thanks to all those who have participated in the collection, stocking, distribution, donations of time, money or products over the years.  After 20 years of helping the needy of our community and the surrounding area, we sincerely thank all those who have been a part of this ministry.

If you have a Friday morning open, we can always use addition help to ‘man’ or ‘woman’ the ‘store’!  There is a sign-up sheet in the Parlor on the Bulletin Board.

Our Church Food Pantry Needs You!!

What do you do on Friday mornings from 9:00—11:00 am?  Do you have a free Friday once in awhile?  Our Food Pantry really needs your help!  We only have 2 or 3 people able to work in the Pantry right now.  If you can spare a Friday morning, please sign up on the sheet in the Parlor or call Carol Frantz.

We are in need of miscellaneous food items and also laundry detergent for our shelf where we let people choose one item.

Thanks to everyone who helps in anyway to keep our Pantry open.
