PRESBYTERIAN 2011 HABITAT HOUSE:
Drive past 2016 North 17th
street in Lafayette, and you will see a fine new Habitat for Humanity house
built for Beth Karlstand and her son, DJ. Landscaping is complete, the
exterior is enhanced with siding and features that satisfy historical society
requirements, and this new structure enhances the attractiveness of the
community. At the house blessing in late October Beth expressed how grateful
she and DJ are to the seven local Presbyterian churches that financed and built
the house. She said she never dreamed that she could ever afford to own her own
home let alone a brand new one.
Presbyterian House 2011 is the seventh HFH house built by the local Presbyterian
consortium since 1999 ----much thanks to Dayton Memorial Presbyterian Church.
Memorial Presbyterian has been a very significant force in this group. Along
with being a major financial supporter for these seven projects, the DMPC
congregation has provided much of the labor for their construction along with
meals for many of the workers. Included in the financial support for these
houses is a ten per cent tithe to support Habitat International and build an
additional 14 houses in other countries.
The Lafayette Habitat for Humanity chapter has built over 215 homes in this
community to help families in need that also show that they can assume the
responsibility of home ownership. Thank you to all who supported these
projects. Know that your support of these families is very meaningful. God
wants us to do what we can-where we can. Your support for Habitat helps extend
God’s hand in supporting those in need. Thanks much to all of you again for
your support for this project.
