Ø June

Items
will be distributed at the July 26 Kids Closet to help the parents in
our community with back to school expenses.

Reach-In/Reach-Out will be doing a community picnic/ice cream social
on Sunday, June 29,
after worship. All we ask you to bring is your favorite pie or ice
cream, we will supply burgers and hot dogs. There will be sack races,
tug-o-war, a watermelon seed spitting contest and
hopefully music in the gazebo. Invite new friends and old friends to
this old fashioned
town picnic. If anyone can help with cooking, music, or games please
call Susie Bretz.
Have you ever wished we would sing YOUR favorite hymn during worship on
Sunday morning? Perhaps that hymn evokes some special memory. Maybe the
lyrics hold some special meaning. Perhaps the tune just touches your
heart.
Whatever
the reason, now is your chance to nominate that special hymn which means
so much to you, because, on Sunday, June 29, the congregation of
Memorial Presbyterian Church will be singing as many of your favorite s
as we can fit into the 10:00 a.m. worship hour.
Watch for
the request sheets which will appear in our Sunday bulletins the first
three Sundays in June. Then, plan on joining with us for a joyful
Sunday filled with the music you love!

The
Scholarship Committee is pleased to announce the 2007-2008 school year
scholarship recipients:
Megan
Earhart
is a 2007 graduate of Jefferson High School. Megan is
attending
IVY TECH in the 4 year nursing program.
Brad Spray
is a 2006 graduate of McCutcheon High School. Brad is in
his second year at PURDUE UNIVERSITY and is working toward a major in
Law and Society with minors in Forensic Science and Religious Studies.
This ministry was established in 2000 by an anonymous donor. Since its
inception, $35,000 has been awarded to college students through the
Dayton Memorial Presbyterian Church Scholarship Fund. In order to
qualify, applicants must meet as many of the following qualifications as
possible:
-
demonstrate a need for financial assistance (most important)
-
be nominated by a member of the Dayton Memorial Presbyterian Church
(does not have to be a member of the Dayton Memorial Presbyterian
Church)
-
have graduated from a local high school
-
be enrolled in a four-year degree program
This
year the Committee struggled mightily with deciding the recipients of
the scholarship, because, worthy applicants outnumbered the available
resources. If you or your family would like to contribute to the future
education of young adults who are working hard to earn their college
degree, you can do so simply by designating your gift to the
“Scholarship Fund.” We will see that it is put to good use.
Our prayers and best wishes go out to all of Dayton Memorial’s
students!!!
Scholarship Committee,
Cathy Hancook,
Nancy Edwards, Jane Coleman and Rev. David Lindemer
