Youth Praise Meeting

At our Praise meetings, we do a lot of singing to Chris Rice, Chris Tomlin, Selah, Nicole C. Mullen and other contemporary Christian artists.

Our Bible study varies every week by topic or format, then we head downstairs for food, ping pong and getting to know one another.  We close our evening with song and prayer to send us out into the week strengthened by Christ.

Come and join us!  Our group is growing and we pray for the empty chair.

The youth group has BIG plans this fall… we have a lot going on so mark your calendars, roll up your sleeves, and get ready to have some FUN!  Sun., Sept. 12th we will stay after church, have lunch and help the Kid’s Closet sort clothes!  We will do this instead of having evening praise service that night!  So, if you are available please plan to stay after church and help out our Kid’s Closet!   Sun., Sept.19th, Hunger Hike!  We will gather donations before and after worship… remember each hiker needs $50.00 to get a t-shirt so start collecting now!  We will have lunch after church (bring money) and we will go to Riehle Plaza and walk for a worthy cause.  Parents pick up your kids at 3 pm in front of the train station.  All donations stay right here in Dayton to support our church food pantry so give until it hurts!   Sun., Sept. 26th Evening Praise Worship.  Sun., Oct. 10th  Evening Praise Worship.  Sun., Oct. 24th CORN MAZE!  We want to invite not only the youth but the entire church family to join us at the corn maze.  We will meet at the corn maze at 5 pm and stay until 7 pm and we will have this instead of evening Praise.  Also remember Smorgasbord is Nov. 6th  and we need volunteers to work in the dining room.  Also, don’t forget Christmas Jubilee.  We will need shoppers and gift wrappers!  Thank again for all your hard work and prayers!

TRIENNIUM  REPORT

Thank you so much for your love, support, & prayers.  Triennium was a great experience for our kids.  We had 7 youth (4 boys & 3 girls) & 4 adults.  Once people found out we were locals, we were put to work giving directions to lost out-of-towners!  There were over 5,000 teens in attendance!  Worship was like a rock concert and an experience I don’t think our kids will soon forget.  It was nice to see our kids get to experience something so different.  They enjoyed their small groups, made tons of new friends, and had lots of silly fun at the recreation events.  The only down side was the heat...boy was it HOT!

One of our goals as a group was that we wanted to feel the Holy Spirit working in us and I believe each kid (and the adults had their own personal moments, but I would like to share my experience with you...As you know, Gideon had surgery while we were at Triennium.  My small group (& several others) had been praying for us.  I left Triennium and went to the surgery.  It was a little more complicated than first expected but in the end all went very well.  After the surgery Scott and I took Gideon home.  I was reluctant to leave him but knew he was in good hands and I needed to get back to campus.  I went to my small group meeting that night and the leader asked, “What percent of you is here in this room tonight?”  She gave the example that she was about 80% there...some of her was at home with her husband and her job.  The group turned to me and I sank down in my seat.  I admitted that I was about 15% there...I explained that I was concerned about my son, I had a lot going on with our kids there at Triennium, and to top it off, I had just started a new job...needless to say, my plate was pretty full.  So, the small group leader wanted to pray for me to be more in the moment and to let go of my worries so we prayed.  While we prayed I received a text message from Scott with a picture of Gideon running full speed through the house yelling “Me ok me OK”.  God works in mysterious ways!

We live in a fallen world and our kids face lots of garbage.  I am so thankful to have a church that supports our kids.  I am thankful to be a part of a church that makes experiences like this available to our kids.  Finally, I am thankful for each and every one of you that prayed for our kids, bought jars of cookie mix to financially support our kids, donated money to the Triennium fund, gave money for snacks and drinks, and for all the love and support!  We have a great bunch of teens in our church.  I thank God for them and for all of you!

Many blessings,

Hillary Basden
